Pug Ugly

I was reading Neil Rushby's excellent blog (here) and enjoyed his post about pug bashing, and the super model he has made.

Back in the seventies it seemed like hardly a month went by without an article by dear old Michael Andress about converting a pug into a crane tank, a narrow gauge loco or an A3 Pacific. (I made that last one up).

I am guilty of a bit of Pug abuse myself, as witnessed by these alarming photographs. What started out innocently enough as an Airfix Pug was joined by a smokebox from an old Mainline J72 and a Dome from a Sutherland Small Ben. I wasn't audacious enough to motorise it (anyone remember the "Anita" motorising kits? ) so I pretended it was being worked on at the shed. Reading Neil's blog, maybe I will have a go...

Thanks, Matt! Hopefully I won't be visited by the pug police...

You are absolutely on the money there. I loved that layout, still have the pages in my file of old articles.

Takes me back - my first ever Airfix kit was the Pug - although I made mine up out of the box. I'd love to see an A3 smokebox grafted onto the front end - and how about a class 37 cab to replace the existing rather draughty arrangement!

Why stop at an A3? An A4, surely, although I think the chime whistle would fill most f the top of the boiler!
I can't remember which my first Airfix kit was...Sopwith Camel, I think. Rather shaming.

I love the idea of a class 37 cab!
